Vytautas Petronis

PhD in Humanities, research fellow

In 1994-1998 got a Bachelor's degree in history at Vytautas Magnus University. In 1999-2001 got Master's degree in Cultural History (University of Turku, Turku/Åbo, Finland); thesis: The Creation of Spatial Imagination in the Lithuanian National Movement (end of 19th - beginning of 20th centuries). 2003-2008 PhD in History (Stockholm University, in collaboration with BEEGS (Baltic and East European Graduate School (University of South Stockholm / Södertörns högskola, Stockholm, Sweden); thesis topic: Constructing Lithuania: Ethnic Mapping in Tsarist Russia, ca. 1800-1914. 2010-2013 - research fellow at the Herder Institute (Marburg, Germany); member of the research group Gewaltgemeinschaften (University of Gießen) and EUCOWAS (European Cooperation on War Studies, Brussels, Belgium); research project: 'Paramilitärische Verbände in Ostmitteleuropa (1918-1944) - Selbstbild, Gewaltpraxis, Soziale Dynamik am Beispiel des "Eisernen Wolfes" in Litauen'. From 1 July 2013 - Research Fellow at the Lithuanian Institute of History (Vilnius).

  • 2010-2013 - Research grant (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Germany).
  • 2009-2010 Postdoctoral Fellowship to work at the University of Glasgow (Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC), UK)
  • 2008 May-August - Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs grant for research work in Swedish archives (Stockholm).
  • 2002-2003 - scholarship for interdisciplinary doctoral lectures at the Ostsee-Kolleg at the Nordeuropa-Instut (Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany).
  • 1998-1999 - G. Soros Foundation scholarship to attend interdisciplinary lectures at the Open Society College (AVK, Vilnius).
