We cordially invite you to the hybrid workshop by Working Group 3 “Patients” of the COST-Network CA22159 EuroHealthHist "Histories of Maternity: Ideas, Practices and Transfers" which will take place on Friday, 17 January 2025, 09:00-18:00 CET.
Over the last two centuries, women’s bodies have been one of the main objects of biopolitics. In the framework of modernizing societies, control over women’s bodies, and in particular over their reproductive functions, represented a symbolic and practical tool for the implementation of social and political projects. The workshop aims at analyzing how different social, political, and cultural contexts interpreted ‘modern’ maternity practices, what norms and values they conveyed through mothers’ health care and childbirth practices, and how mothers reacted top delivered practices. The workshop programme is available here.
The workshop will take place at the Academic Conference Center (AKC) in Prague and via Zoom platform. In order to receive a Zoom login link, please contact Dr Andrea Griffante by 16 January: griphusrex@yahoo.it
The workshop is organized by the Lithuanian Institute of History (Lithuania), the Max Stern Yezreel Valley College (Israel), and the Hannah Arendt Institute for Totalitarianism Studies at the TU Dresden (Germany) in cooperation with the Institute of Contemporary History at the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague.
